For three years, she wrote a regular column for Photo Pro magazine. She won Children’s Photographer of the Year with the SWPP two years in a row for her fine art work. Julia also became well known for her crazy Christmas cards, which were the subject of an article on the BBC website in 2020 (see samples below).

After 15 years as a professional photographer, Julia switched back to her first love: writing. Her early tastes in reading were eclectic, veering between Victoria Holt romance novels, comic books like ElfQuest, and the classics. All her young attempts at writing were fantasy-based, but, for her first series as an adult—The Photographers Trilogy—she decided to lean into her romantic side.

In summer 2022, Julia launched the podcast Two Lit Chicks. She chatted with well-known writers about the books that changed their lives. Guests included Milly Johnson, Joanne Harris, Bonnie Garmus, Claire Fuller, Damian Barr, Jo Browning Wroe, Georgia Pritchett, Fonda Lee, and Kit de Waal (plus many more).

Julia now lives in Wimbledon with her husband and two children. And a cat! Let’s not forget the cat.
